Sittong

Situated in the Kurseong block of the Darjeeling district in West Bengal, Sittong is a small himalayan village that is also part of the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary.

It is covered in dense green forests that is home to a vast number of rare Himalayan flora and fauna. You can trek through the forest trails and spend time exploring the entire Sittong area, filled with pine forests, waterfalls and tea gardens. On a clear sunny day, you will be delighted with visits from various brightly coloured wild birds and butterflies fluttering around you. You can spend a day just relaxing, sipping on a cup of warm organic tea, sourced from the nearby tea gardens and immersing yourself in the beauty of the place.

This idyllic Himalayan village is the perfect pick for you whether you are looking to spend a few relaxing days immersed in nature or you want to explore and find adventures that will stay with you for a very long time!

The surrounding forests are marked with small trails that can be trekked and more often than not, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking 360 degree view of the Kanchenjunga mountain ranges as you cross a viewpoint around a bend in your path. You can also explore the nearby tea gardens and have organic tea, walk or take a car to the various ancient monasteries that are situated here and spend time exploring the rich local culture, folklore and traditions. A walk through the village and houses around here will take you through sprawling orange gardens. You can also buy directly from the garden owners and enjoy a hearty feast of fresh , ripe oranges grown organically! You should also take a day or two to visit the famous spots in Sittong like the Ahaldara view point, Namthing Pokhri lake and Jogi ghat.

Best places to visit in Sittong

Orange gardens - The entire village has beautiful orange gardens spread throughout the area and a if you take a walk through the village you can witness the gardens in all their glory and even buy fresh oranges straight from the gardens!

Ahaldara view point - Our property is located right at the top of this view point so it is one of the best places to experience the amazing view this view point has to offer. You will be able to see an expansive 360° view of the Kanchenjunga and surrounding lush mountain ranges, rolling hills and river valleys including the Teesta, below. Spend some time here taking in the beauty of the place and enjoy the calm and quiet this place can offer if you are there early in the morning for a sunrise.

Namthing Pokhri - This is another beautiful spot you can visit while you are travelling to Sittong. The lake is considered as one of the most sacred areas of this region, and it is also home the rare Himalayan salamnders that abound this region in the monsoon months. The lake is surrounded by lush pine forests, and offers beautiful views throughout the year.

Jogighat - The Jogighat bridge over the Riyang river is a picturesque destination that is surrounded by lush green forests and hills. You can spend time on the river banks, enjoying the sound of birds and the soft flowing river, have a picnic with your family and friends as you take in the beauty of the surroundings.
